Keith Hare currently serves as President and CEO of the Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living the largest trade association representing long term care providers in the Commonwealth.

Prior to joining VHCA-VCAL, Keith served as Deputy Secretary of Health & Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia where he co-managed the day-to-day operations of the Health and Human Resources Secretariat—its twelve agencies and over 16,000 employees. He has also held leadership positions at two of Virginia’s largest health care trade and professional associations. He began his career in his home state of Tennessee as a Congressional aide working for Congressman Bob Clement.

While in school at the University of Tennessee he interned for Congressmen Bob Clement and Bart Gordan and Senator Bill Frist. In addition, he served as a supervisor for the Atlanta Committee on the Olympic Games.

Mr. Hare’s career highlights include working with Former Governor Tim Kaine and the Medical Society of Virginia on passage of Virginia’s monumental smoking ban legislation in 2009. While serving as Deputy Secretary he led settlement talks with the Commonwealth of Virginia and the U.S. Department of Justice concerning potential Olmstead violations by the Commonwealth. The settlement resulted in historic funding by the Commonwealth in services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Mr. Hare led VHCA-VCAL during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The association worked with local, state, and federal partners to secure funding and resources to ensure nursing and assisted living centers had the funding and resources they needed to provide treatment to their residents and patients.

Mr. Hare has served on numerous committees and boards in Virginia. He enjoys speaking on health care policy and advocacy to students and organizations.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his Master of Public Administration from Virginia Tech.

His most important job is being a husband to his wife of over 23 years and their three children.
